On occasion, my siblings and I would check out the dumpster, behind the bookstore. Instead of returning unsold magazines and books, the bookstore would rip-off the front covers, and toss the perfectly good merchandise in the dumpster. We would spend gleeful hours, sifting through the romance novels, to find Mad Magazine and D.C. Comics. I'm much older now, dumpsters are more toxic, I'll stick with Free Trees. My dad put some benches under it and people would sit and chat about the future of America, it was really nice. sort of like a park where you can go and relax. But then one day I was being playful with my hatchet and debarked it. The tree then died and my dad wanted to know if I knew anything about it.
