Dang, I just found out about a company in England called GreenWorks that sounds great. What happens is people or companies can donate old office or school furniture (desks, chairs, tables) and GreenWorks will fix them up.
Once the used-but-looking-like-new furniture is ready, it will either be sold (cheaply) to offices or charities (for a discount), or donated to an “orphanage in Romania and a range of NGO projects in Benin, Gambia and Ghana”.
So if you live in England and are thinking about getting rid of some used office furniture, por favor donate it to them. You’ll be happy knowing that your old furniture didn’t go to a landfill, and is being reused somewhere by some people who need it.
Also, does anyone know if something like GreenWorks exists in the U.S.? DÃgame, because if not, I might have to start a company like this meself (since I am already an “expert” on recycling household junk into useful mess).

I know a place like this that has a surplus sale every month where they do this..you can get old dorm couches, desks, chairs, etc that aren’t being used.

I currently have 2 used laser printers which I am hoping to donate to a charity, however i am having difficulty finding an organisation that not only accepts printer donations but also collects them free of charge, if anyone knows of an organisation in the UK (as i am located in Bristol) which follows the above description then please could you supply me with their contact details,
Many thanks

Natasha, unless I am missing something, GreenWorks is located in the UK.
Here are their locations (I have no idea where Bristol is, unfortunately)

I work for iReuse, http://www.iReuse.comand we collect mostly office furniture from businesses and donate it to non-profits, all within the SF Bay Area. A new "sister" company setting up shop at the moment in VA / Washington DC area.

for Natasha (or others that might consider something like this in the future or right now) – how about just putting them on Freecycle or the new site, http://www.snaffleup.co.uk/?

http://www.Etreev.com I don't know how large or small they require jobs must be for services, and there is a charge for all services, but check them out.

It looks like nothing is available on that website… it's a cool idea, though. Did it just start?

Etreev just started. iReuse has been in the San Fran Bay Area since about 2005.
As far as getting stuff, the idea is to create a "wish list" and when items come through, you are alerted that what is on your wish list is available. That's how most items are moved, rather than being posted online.

Quick update on them. We emailed them what we had and they immediately had a home for it with a not-for-profit who immediately circled back to us to coordinate a pick-up, etc. All of this is just an hour old (and nobody has retrieved anything yet), but the process seems to be working very, very smoothly.

Very awesome. San Francisco has led the way for a LOT of online free-stuff communities (craigslist being the biggest). I'll check out Etreev for Raleigh and see if they have anything. Good to see more people reusing things!

A great work ecojoe. I really appreciate your way of doing things. Right now I don't have any but after few years I will surely have some furniture for donation, like a pine wardrobe and few wooden furniture when they will be outdated. I will also inform all my friends of your great job.

Usually I’m only interested with a Honda when I see “Honda N” and the next two letters are “SX”, but this actually sparked my curiosity. I think it’s pretty cool,

Hey, everytime I try to open pages I just end up viewing half of the site’s post. I don’t understand if it’s my web browser(Opera) or not, anyone else having this?
