The green movement is making inroads even in the lil’ town of Garner. I was in the library last week, lamenting my near-illiteracy while I looked for the picture book section, when I saw READ MORE »

Hot dang, it’s been nigh on a month since I last posted on here, back when perhaps the greatest human being of all time went to go join the Great Spirit in the Sky.

Anyhoo, some of you may be familiar with the Lorax, a fanciful creature who “speaks for the trees”, straight from the warped mind of Dr. Seuss, PhD. Here’s your chance to get a free PDF of an activity book featuring this true eco-hero.

Just CLICK ON THIS LINK to go and get your free copy of it! Go on, I won’t watch, honest I won’t.

Last, but not least, if you’ve got an attention span longer than mine, you may want to take a peek at this Lorax cartoon, which looks like it was made in the ’70s, based on my expert opinion.

Michael Jackson Dead – A True Eco Hero?

No, not really an eco hero. He lived extravagantly, in huge mansions (with huge energy bills), and logged many thousands of miles by plane, one of the most pollutingest ways to travel. But today we remember him for the good, and not for the bad.

The man, the myth, the legend Michael Jackson has died. Although he did not really walk the “green” walk, he did talk the green talk, with such unforgettable songs such as the timeless “Heal the World” and “Earth Song.”

So now, a moment of silence please, whilst we listen to the haunting melodies of “Earth Song”, in remembrance of Michael Jackson, the former King of Pop.

Last weekend, I was coming out of Brew and View when I spied something out of the ordinary. Over a year ago, I had been amazed just to see one Smart Car in Raleigh. But this topped that easily…
Two Smart Cars in one parking spot
It was two Smart Cars parked in one parking spot! Yes, I’m sure they planned it all out and thought they’d be all cool and mess, but forilla, it really was pretty neat to see two cars parked together like that.

Also, it’s not too late to try to win your very own Smart fortwo. Act now while supplies last.

Recycled Basketball Sighting

Martian b-ball
During a recent trip to my friendly, local, down-home neighborhood Walmart, whilst perusing the sports section, what should catch my eye but a fahwnky green basketball. I snapped a precautionary picture before taking my chances and slowly approaching the strange, green orb.

I figured it’d be one of those gimmicky “Go Green!” products whose only claim to “greenness” is its actual color. Imagine, if you will, my surprise when I saw that 40% of its surface is made from recycled rubber. Now sure, that’s not 100%, but that’s almost half of the surface that’s made of recycled rubber! Crazy.

While it’s not quite as eco-friendly (or cheap) as buying a used basketball (or just finding one in a creek), it’s a good start. I hope to try one out soon; if it passes my reverse jam test, then it’s good enough for me.

Interview with Rapid Repair CEO

Note: Since it was a phone interview and I didn’t have a recorder, his answers (and my questions) are not exact quotes, but are pretty close to what was actually said.

A little while ago, I had the good fortune to talk with Aaron Vronko, the CEO of RapidRepair, and ask him a few questions. For your 411, RapidRepair buys your broken small electronics and uses their parts to repair other people’s gadgets. A prime example of a business that helps the environment while also making money. But let’s get on with this here entrevista

NO TOTES FOR YOU
Edit: I received an email from the owner of the site that was giving away bags. It turns out that their sponsor backed out at the last second. So no bags for anyone 🙁 If you want a free tote, try this. I do apologize for any inconvenience.

Remember, all these free tote bags don’t do any good unless you actually bring them to the store and use them instead of plastic bags, so get on that!
